| Hi, how is summer treating you? I curb shopped a perfectly good "potty chair" w/out the pot, will put a planted pot in it instead of a "servicable one" he he he
Curb shopped a wicker plant stand w/ a bowl shaped plant holder. The wicker is thin, very dry & brittle. Can I revitalize it b/4 paintng? Need to use a primer on the black stains?
Is there such a thing a "repair kit" at Lowes or ???
or do I need to improvise for the missing wicker? The bowl rim is 95% undone.
Glue gun or Elmer to repair loose pieces?
Suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Hi Vangy, I found a small stool with wicker seating that was ripped and asked my crafty sister if she knew how to fix it. She is so good at decorating and crafting things, she is my designer consultant. Below is what she wrote back to me. That wicker caning can be bought in sheets. Look up in the yellow pages to see who the suppliers are in your area. The outside piece is a cane as well. It should be one piece. If you wet the chair in this area it should loosen up. I would call a repair service to see if someone could show you how to take the old caning out and restore it with a new seat. It's not hard, just time consuming as you have to get it taut. Sal |

| Vangy, Wanted to post another msg to you - I have seen those bowl wicker plant stands at an antique shop. The gal is kind of pricey but I will check for you as to how it can be repaired and what it might be worth. Sal |

| I have a wicker rocking chair that has no seat. How would you folks suggest I put a new seat in. I thought about cutting out a piece of plywood to put in. Or I could get some webbing that they use for fixing metal summer chairs and put some gunny sacking over it then put a cushion on top. Suggestions. Thanks |

| You might check with an antique dealer for names of people who refinish antiques. "Pressed" seats can be ordered, they look like leather, and are set on the chair with upholstery nails/tacks. "Wicker" seat material can be ordered by the foot, along with the spline to set them in the chair. Not all "Wicker" seats are done in sheets, however. Many, usually the best and more expensive, are woven from reeds, and this is an art form. It usually takes a long time to learn how to do it. The Lighthouse For the Blind is a very good place to check on having any or all of this done, if you have one in your area. If not, you can contact them, probably online, to find the closest to you. They do excellent work. Janie |

I found that it takes quite a few times to master the proper way for you to insert the caning into a chair, wasting much material. Why spend all your time and money on one chair, when all you have to do is See an expert. You can cane it for $60.00. Not only that, if you have a chair that is Hand cane. It can be converted into press cane for the same price. Everyone wants to save a buck by trying to do it there selves when they don’t realize they end up spending more money in the long run. I hate to say this- the old cliché is leave it up to the experts – they have time invested to do it right the first time. Now isn’t spending $60.00 worth spending more time with your kids? In NY-You can try Deeswicker Dot Com In NC-You can Try WickerWideWeb Dot Com There are many others maybe in your area, I find these two are the best. |
