Fountain newbee - need info

Hi

I just bought a new fountain and DH thinks we should turn it off at night. I could hook it to a timer but I'm afraid we'll start breeding skeeters.

We live in the Chicago area. Can we leave the pump outside all winter?

Couple of drops of vegetable oil will save you from skeeters. Mona

If you shut the fountain off at night the Mosquitoes may lay eggs at night but they should be destroyed by the pump in the morning.
The pump can stay out IF it is dry. I would drain fountain, dry it and cover until spring.

Here is a link that might be useful: Stromberg fountain
