Trellis made of 1 X 1s

I have a lot of 1X1s in 12' lenghts. I want to make a 8' h X 4' w trellis to attach to my porch as a screen. Would this wood be too bulky and if so what size should I use? I can have the wood split if need be. Right now there is a latice trellis that I've had to replace twice. Any suggestions - not on the dimensions but on the size of the wood itself? Thanks.

I would make one if I had that lumber. Or at least an arbor way. I think with 1Xs you just do not place them as close as the lattice. My DD and DH made an arbor to go around a gate and they used 2x4 for the frame and top. they did use a heavy trellis bought for the sides. But 1Xs would have been just as good. I think the consideration would be the length of screws used, where some lattice is attached with brads. good luck, June
