Neighborhood bear

Does anyone know what black bears dislike? I have one that visits nightly (and sometimes daily). He seems to like the bird seed and likes to pull out the termite sticks. I would like to discourage him without hurting him. Also, my impatients are getting tired of being stepped on.

For starters, remove anything he could consider food, i. e, the birdseed, and any source of water.

I think they like everything! Check with your Wildlife enforcement agency (here we have Fish & Wildlife, a state agency) to see what they recommend.

Take a look at this information. I am an animal control officer and we use this resource a lot for help with other animals. Hope this helps.

Exclusion is the key.
