Backyard fountain is finally done!

I finally finished my fountain last night. It took a lot longer than I thought, but it came out nice. It seemed like every time I thought I was almost finished, I ran into another problem. Ugh!

But at least I saved a ton of money on it by making one myself. I was looking at a few stores online and here in the area. It would have cost me anywhere from $70 to $150. I think this cost me $40 including taxes for all supplies.

I have a couple other pictures of it up on my website.

I like your water feature idea. In fact I will put that on my list of to do's. What size pump did you use?

Glad you like it!

I found my pump online. It's 120gph and has a lift of 2.5 feet.

Good luck!

Your fountain is absolutely wonderful! Brilliant idea. Will you give us a brief run down of how you did it?

Thanks!

I have been working on one too, I made it after seeing one at an antique shop, I'm painting a little table for it and will hang some of the bigger utensils off the front to show them off better. My 2 teens say only I could see art in a sink full if dishes?!!

GardenChicken: I'd be happy to! It was fairly simple to make. I took a dowel, glued it to the bottom of my watering can. Then when dry, I took clear airline tubing and ran it up the dowel, up the handle, and into the can. Plugged it into my pump, put the pump in the tub. Filled with water and plugged in. I hid the tubing and dowel with some fake ivy garland. I hid the pump with some rocks.

A few tips: make sure you get a pump that has enough lift. You'll need one with at least 2.5' to go up the dowel and into the can. You could probably find another way to stand the can up, but this was all I could come up with on short notice.

Good luck!

Wow! I had a great time cruising your website! You do some beautiful work. I recently tried my had at frosting/etching glass. I did my front door window (which is a large oval) with a garland of flowers, leaves and even a dragonfly, hummingbird and a few bumble bees! I loved your gorgeous wine bottles. Being a recovering alcoholic and member of a nondrinking church I think I'll have to think of a nonalcoholic version before I emulate yours!

You also inspired me with your garden photos. I have been learning to use my digital camera and plan on framing them in old windows that I found.

Thanks so much for sharing! I came away with such good ideas!

Thanks for the instructions. Did you do the mosaic on the watercan too? It is very attractive.

Your wine bottles are very cool! Did you stuff the bulbs in from the top or did you drill a hole near the bottom and stuff 'em in there? I once saw some 'little brown jug' type bottles (1 gallon size with a pouring ring at the neck) done similar to yours, and they had a hole drilled near the bottom. A big Christmas bow to finish them, very pretty for a fireplace mantel.

Mimi: thank you for the compliments! I've been getting so many compliments on the bottles, fountain, and other things lately I'm wondering if I should start selling them!! Right now I just do it for fun and enjoyment, but extra money in the pocket would be great. Good luck with your new digital camera. What kind did you get?? They're wonderful. I don't know how I lived without mine for so long.

GardenChicken: No, unfortunately I don't know how to mosaic yet. Would you believe that I bought the watering can as-is from Walmart? It was on the clearance rack, which was even better. As for the wine bottles, no, I don't have a drill so I just stuff the lights in through the top. You can drill a hole near the bottom and insert them. Either way, you still see the cord. I think it's easier to hide the cord coming out of the top because I can just pop the cork in and add some grapes. Not sure what I'd do if it came out of the bottom.

I too have yet to take a stab at mosaic... thought if you had done it I could scoop a few pointers! LOL

I'll have to give the wine bottles a go, well... add 'em to my (ever growing) project list anyway.
