Searching for Iron Rose Arbour

Posted by elchap Zone 5 (My Page) on

I have a rather large climbing New Dawn which is seriously in need of a rose arbour. It is presently resting on an iron fence but has many long canes waiting to be placed on a beautiful and heavy duty arbour. Just wondering if anyone knows of any sites on the net which would be helpful in this search. Many thanks

RE: Searching for Iron Rose Arbour

I think there is a co. that might have 1 called Gardengate. Don't know if it would be strong enough for a heavy rose. How about a local ironworks company or wroughtiron fence co. They could make you a really strong 1 that they would powdercoat so you wouldn't have to paint it for some time(I'd ask for extra powdercoating, it they do 2 coats I'd ask for 3 as it would be pain to do. I got 1 at "Big Lots" it is heavy but only about 8 ft tall. It requires repainting every couple of yrs. New Dawn gets very tall. You could rein it in so there isn't so much weight, I think the canes can reach 20 ft or more. I seal cuts with Elmer's Glueall. I had a borer get in 1 rose I didn't seal last yr & had to cut it way back, I had gotten in a hurry & didn't go get the glue. Just make sure whole cut end is covered, just takes a sec.

if you want to go cheap - go with a 16 foot cattle panel. Thread some rebar at the ends to secure it to the ground. I have lots of roses and my best arbors are the cattle panel ones.
