Seeking concrete pavers cast to look like stone in Oregon.

In tons of garden / landscape show and books, they mention stepping stones / patio slabs that are made of concrete but cast to look like stone, and how great they are because they are lighter and less expensive than real stone. (On the City Gardener show, he used some 18" square ones that he said were only about $4 each!)

Sounds great, but I haven't been able to find any anywhere in Oregon. All I've seen is interlocking pavers, real stone, and those really cheap plain concrete stepping stones for about $1 each.

I'm looking for 12"-18" square stepping stones. I did see a website for a place in California, www.paverdepot.com, and they have the type of thing I'm looking for, made by Abbotsford Concrete Products (there was a photo of their product that looked like the walkway to Thomas Hobbs' house that he shows in his books) and Cal-Ga-Crete. I've contacted both companies to see if they have dealers in Oregon, but haven't heard back.

My internet searches have yielded nothing but sources for stone, stamped concrete services, and cultured stone building supplies for walls, etc. I have also tried calling a couple of landscape supply places to see if they had what I want, was told yes, and drove there only to find that they had the usual array of real stone and ordinary concrete and that I'd wasted my time and $5+ worth of gas.

If anyone has actually seen a place in the Portland, Salem, or Eugene area that sells these elusive concrete pavers cast to look like stone, please let me know! Thank you!

I'm not sure if the email worked, so you can try to email me at cementgusy@msn.com

Here are some slate pavers he's making for me for my front pathway. I'll dye them to look more natural when I'm done. I'm also having him make me some 16x16 brick patterned pavers, that look like old cobblestones almost.

This won't answer your question but you might enjoy looking at the site. Called "Replica Rock", this shows great rock textures on everything from furniture to paving tiles. Someone mentioned it on the hypertufa forum.

Someone from Portland emailed me to ask if I ever found any pavers...unfortunately, my husband accidentally deleted a whole page of emails, and that one was one of them, so I hope the person who wrote it comes back sometime and sees this!
The only pavers I've found like this are at the Lowe's Home Improvment in Tigard, near the 217. They were out of a couple of the varieties, plus it was cold and rainy and dark, so I didn't get a very good look. But they did have them. Funny, just a few days ago I checked out the new Lowe's in Keizer, figuring they'd have a big, fresh stock of them, but they didn't have any! Just the usual plain concrete and interlocking pavers.
Anyway, the ones I did see ranged in price, I think, from $3-$7. They had square and natural stone shapes in different colors and sizes.

woodburngirl,

I did a serpentine walkway that leads from my front porch to my pond and rock garden area with the new rose/charcoal colored poured stepping stones that Lowe's started carrying last year (at least they had them in Auburn, WA). I love it. It's the stuff that is designed for 5 different shape steps to make a square pattern. Since my path was very curved, I simply placed them in such a way as to fit and be spaced not to break stride. I haven't planted my thyme or star creeper or whatever it is I decide to use yet but it really did turn out great. I've got a pic that is probably way too big to post here but I can e-mail it if you like. I think these were around 7.00 each. They fit my scheme perfectly because the walkway was formed with the same colored stackstone and lined on both sides with hinos.

Hi - Me from Oregon again. I'm not far from the Lowes you mentioned so I'll have a look this weekend. Thanks!

Mike
