Here's a shot of some nasturtiums growing under and around a tree.

How many plants do you have planted there? I just planted some and I think I may have them too close.

I planted those from seed directly in the ground. I don't know really because this is the second season. I just let them do their thing. Did you plant plants or seeds?

RE: nasturtiums and other things

I started some plants by seed and I have three plants about 8 inches apart from each other.

It really doesn't matter because they reseed anyway. Wherever the seeds drop thats where they will grow. If you look at the first picture I posted you will see how they grow if left alone in a mild climate. All those came from one package of seeds. If you want to you could move them. Where are you by the way? I see you're in Missouri. What City? The weather is very hot and humid there from what I remember. They really don't thrive in the heat. Maybe you should just let them do their thing before the heat gets them.

Shoot, I didn't know they hated the heat. I'm in St. Louis, zone 6.

Plant some morning glories instead. They love the heat.
Thats my hometown. I'll be there for a family reunion.

How do you keep the blackfly from destroying them? My nasturtiums were decimated this year.

for me in zone 7, they sulk in the hot weather, but when cooler weather comes around, they show out. especially like the trailing ones. i plant these in my beds to trail around as a ground cover. gorgeous.

I don't know what the blackfly is. Are they like aphids?

Your nasturtiums look nice. I like how they look "trailing" or vining.... are they in a pot? or climbing up a trellis? :)

Thanks flowers and things. Actually, at the time of the photo, they were in the ground around the tree.
