| What's up with these crazy cosmos??? They were supposed to be 18-24" tall! I planted in 3 different beds, with no additional fertilizer ammended or added later--all three plantings exceeded 4' -- only this one was allowed to achieve it's current height, in excess of 8'!! (My husband is 5'9") Any ideas? If it helps any, only orange ones bloomed, and not many at that. It was supposed to have been a mixed batch--red, yellow and orange. My soil tests indicate low levels of NPK--will ammend in the fall. What gives??? |

| Mine did the same thing! I had NO idea they'd get so tall. I finally just decided they were taking off because of a compost bin I had there the year before. Though one woman told me that the old fashioned, "heirloom" version, of Cosmos Sulphureus is known to get that tall. Mine are up to well over eight foot tall. Would've helped to know this ahead of time. Because in one area I planted them in FRONT of some short plants. The short ones of course got swallowed up. :) The hummers and butterflies have been obsessed with them though. So I can't complain. :) |
