I have to admit from the start that I simply fell for the photograph of these and ordered seed without knowing anything about them. (it was Jan when I tend to do a lot of impulse seed buying) I have read a little bit on-line, but was wondering if anyone here has grown these before and has any words of wisdom to impart. I got most of them to germinate, and now have quite a few tiny little seedlings growing under lights.

I've never grown it, but have to say they look like Orchid miniatures! How cute!!

Never grown them but many of the wild species like wet or boggy ground. I'd guess they'll need a lot of water, not too much heat and a little shade.

Yeah - they are pretty festive arent they? Flora - thats about all I could find on line - that the wild species like boggy soil. I dont have a stream or pond in my back yard (I wish). I will just make sure that there is lots of organic matter in the soil and mulch them good.

I grew some yellow monkey flowers I received in a plant swap a couple of years ago. I had them in a pot, didn't water them a lot, just maintained average moisture, and part sun. I think it would've liked more sun, but I wouldn't worry much about the wet soil part. It will grow in wet conditions, but it doesn't NEED it.

I have also grown them in pots and also in the ground. They are a staple in the annuls sold by nurseries in this area. The ones I grew in a pot were winter sown directly into the pot. The ones in the ground grew best in a northern location with less sun. Neither needed boggy soil, just evenly moist.

Thanks - thats great to hear. I had thought about having them in pots, but was worried it would be hard to maintain the right moisture level. My germination rate was close to 100% so I have almost 50 of them right now. If they all survive I will put some in the ground and some in pots and see where they are happiest. I have lots of "part sun" in my yard, so it won't be difficult to find places for them.
