We have 10 gardens, and we are located in Ottawa KS, and my problem is that I need now advice on my plantings this year. My wife, who was the expert, died last year in an accident, and I was the field labor doing all the planting and maintenance. I want to bring a local expert out only for consulting support. Someone who really knows annuals, and what are deer and rabbit resistant, what to put into our hanging pots, etc. The town is 40 miles SW of Kansas City, and there are really no garden services in the area. I thought of putting an ad in craigslist. What would you suggest?

if you took any pix... and you could figure out how to post them here.. we could ID them for you ... replication is the sincerest form of flattery .... i would also suggest you contact your local county extension office ... and see if they can be of any assistance ... and ask them for a referral to the county master gardeners club.. if any ... they can earn MG credits by volunteering for such ... i would also research any and all garden clubs in the greater area ... its usually the brute labor which is the hard part ... and you still have that... so i would be sure to impress on any and all.. that the key to what you need.. is design ... sorry for your loss.. ken

So sorry to hear of your loss :(. Your wife would be so proud you are reaching out to keep her gardens healthy. I live in the country too and have the same problems...no one close. I found this site online and have used them religiously ever since. They have a master gardener on staff who will answer your questions-free of charge! Just tell Karen your situation and she will be glad to help. You can also visit the Latest News section for articles on just about anything you can think of. Enjoy your spring. P.S. Please be careful with Craig's list. If you do that, have someone else with you at your place when meeting potential helpers. You might do better to go through something like Angie's List or ask someone you trust. There are some crazy people out there and it doesn't hurt to be cautious.
