| What is the difference between a: Cypress Vine I see people using these 3 names interchangeably. Are they the same plant? |

| convert each to latin thru google... and you will find out ... i will do the first for you at the link and now you understand the problem with plants that have more than one common name.. usually according to regional differences ... ken |

| Cypress vine is the common name for Ipomoea quamoclit. Cardinal Vine is the common name for Ipomoea sloteri a fertile seed producing tertraploid though commonly misdescribed as Ipomoea multifida which is a sterile diploid. Feathered has been used as a marketing name for I.quamoclit when the petals are distinctly separated and as a descriptor for Ipomnoea purpurea when the petals are separated and usually with many fringegy-like petaloid pieces which the Japanese refer to as a hige = bearded. I usually only scan the vines section for Morning Glory related posts , but I received a private message from Brit asking me to take a look at the post here , but if anyone has Morning Glory related questions the Vines forum is the place to post, if you would like a reply from me , unless you are interested to join a devoted MG related group. | I have grown cardinal vine and morning glory vine.. . don't know the particulars but I do know the seeds were totally different on the 2 as were the foliage and flower. . . the cardinal didn't bloom much but my oh my did it ever produce some serious décor for the fence. . . the morning glories bloomed profusely as well as a ton of vine. . . don't know about cypress vine. . . |
