Is there some trick to getting these seeds to germinate ? I've had mine covered in a pot on a windowsill for a month now where temperatures range between 55-65 and still nothing. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

This is an annual that acts like a perennial and the germination period is 15 to 30 days

It won't help for this time bit it is best to chill the seeds for 2 weeks before planting. Place the seeds on a damp paper towel and seal in a zip lock bag and put in the fridge--not the freezer.

They say it is best to seed outdoors because they do not transplant well. Once it is established it will drop it's seeds and grow again the next year. Germination is not greatwhen starting them from seed--80%

Since the germination period can be as long as a month and you didn't prechill the seed you'll just have to wait and see if any come--it's too soon to write them off now. If they do and grow to transplant size harden them off by placing them in the shade and gradually over a week move them into the sun and to where they are going to grow. When transplanting them try to disturb the roots as little as possible.

This is a trick I learned when transplanting difficult plants. Water the hole you are planting in and let it soak into the ground. Once transplanted cover them with an upside down flower pot and place a stone on it so it doesn't blow off. Leave the pot on for 2 days. This lets the roots hit wet ground right away and the pot shades the plant so it doesn't have to cope with the sun and heat while it is settling in.

Good luck

Thanks for the help downlinggram. I did have the unopened seed packet in the freezer so I thought that would have given them enough chilling, anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed, thanks again.

I WS these otherwise, I would not be able to get them to germinate.
