| I have a narrow bed about 28" wide by 30' long next to the sunny south wall of my garage. Last year I planted zinnias that grew to 3 feet and my wife said they were just too tall there in a row. There is no room for a smaller planting in front of such tall zinnias. What small, but constantly blooming annual could I plant there about 12-18" tall. Is there a variety if zinnia that is a dwarf? Zinnias seem to do well in our clayey soil and the butterflies come by the hundreds. |

| Yes. There are small zinnias. Try any of the Profusion series, or augustofolia is another, if I spelled it correctly. They are exactly the height you need and are covered with smaller, long-lasting blooms all summer. Martha |

| I had the same feeling about the 3-foot tall zinnias that I first planted, so last year, I went with the ones that were 12-18 inches. Worked out better for the area they were in. So you could try zinnias. I also like vincas and snapdragons, but haven't seen them reseed themselves yet. Marigolds are a familiar flower that does reseed. I put marigolds in front of my zinnias. This year, I'm adding dianthus. In my zone, they are fairly hardy, withstanding much of the average winter we have here, so they are still green even late into the winter. I haven't seen them reseed either but hope they will do that in this same area with the zinnias and marigolds.

| My dianthus spread too much for me in central Illinois. I keep digging them out. |
