I apologize if someone has already posted about this zinnia before. I heard the variety "cherry & ivory" Swizzle was a very nice annual. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks, Pam

Here's a picture I found on the Net. How pretty! Now I want an old fashioned lollipop!

Aren't they pretty! Showy, too. (I realize I'm no help--sorry!) :-)

Pam,

Swizzle is an F1 hybrid, which makes their seed very expensive. Swizzle is a dwarf zinnia, only 12 inches tall, which limits there use for many people, including myself. Zinnia Whirlygig is 27 inches tall, which is a much more useful height for me, and it comes in a variety of two-color and three-color combinations. And it is open pollinated, so its seed are much more economical to purchase. I have crossed Whirlygigs with other zinnias, to get a variety of two-toned color effects.

This is another hybrid with the same coloration as ivory and cherry Swizzle, but on a much better plant.

Some Whirlygig specimens have a picotee effect.

Some of my hybrids combine the two-color effect with a scabious flower form.

However, Swizzles have the advantage of uniformity, and if you want to create a low-growing zinnia bed, and you can afford the seed or the plants, they can be very effective.

Very Nice pictures! I just planted a pack of "Swizzle" not much germanination compared to the other zinnia's I planted.

I have a question. If I save seed from "swizzle zennia's , knowing they are a F1 hybrid, what would be your guess as to what the planting would yield? I know they will not be true to the parent plant, but how far off the parent plant would a person expect?
Thanks

I plant Swizzle Cherry & Ivory every year.I start inside due to the expensive seeds.I have gotten them already in bloom in 6 packs.Seems to me they get a little taller than 12 ins. here.
I really like what Zenman has done with his crosses.
