Whats up with my peppers?

I planted 8 young jalapenos a couple of weeks ago. I noticed that several were starting to discolor as can be seen in the picture below. I give them plenty of water. Could this be a sign of lack of adequate nutrition? I have not given any fertilizer. However, I did add in a bag of veg garden planting mix into my soil.

I'm new to growing peppers, so I don't know whats going on.

I think its possible you are giving them too much water. Peppers are pretty drought-tolerant and like really warm temperatures. This spring has been quite mild in some areas too. Peppers are also pretty much pest and disease-resistant, which is why I think they may be getting too much water. I would try removing the mulch from directly around the plants and let them dry out down to at least an inch or two deep before watering again. They are still putting on new growth, so I think just letting them dry out and then watering less frequently will help. They also like fairly rich soil, so adding some compost may help. The pH of the soil also should be between about 6.0 and 7.0. Hope this helps.

RE: Whats up with my peppers?

looks like lack of hardening off.. and sunburn ...

note that the freshest new growth is sun acclimated.. and doing just fine ... as far as i can tell on this pic ...

if the new leaves continue to look fine... then ...

ignore it all ...

if they then develop a problem ... then you have a real problem ...

did you start the seed yourself.. indoors... did you harden them off ..

ken

ps: it could also be a very slight cold damage... weeks back... when you planted them.. but only showing the slight damage now ...

RE: Whats up with my peppers?

Thanks for the info!

There's a chance that I may be over watering. I will back off and see if that helps.

I did not start them from seed...rather, I bought them from amy local Ace hardware. I planted them about 2 weeks before this picture was taken. I didn't harden them off. They were kept outside at the hardware store, so I figured that they were already acclimated.

I will let them go and see what happens...

thanks again!
