Purple petunias -seem bigger and stroner than someothers

We made an impulse purchase at the supermarket - a basket of petunias. There were yellow ones and purple ones. We transplanted the whole thing into a hole in a stump.

About a month has passes and the yellow ones are smaller and the blossoms short lived. The purple ones are large and the blossoms longer lived. Otherwise hardly any discernible difference.

Is there any way to figure out what variety or strain the purple are?

post a pic???

go to some nurseries.. carrying a flower with you ... right now.. while they are still selling them ..

call the nursery you bought them from ??? ... unless it was bigboxstore.. then dont bother .... oh ... grocery store.. out here in farm land.. my grocer buys from local growers.. so they might be able to tell me who grew them ... and they could probably tell me what they used in the pots ...

well thats my ideas ...

Let me completely rephrase the question. Can you link me to your favorite list describing common petunias?

(I went Googling and quickly became a little bit overwhelmed - I could figure it out but sometimes advice is better than too much information.)

It may be hard to differentiate between cultivars, although you can differentiate between types of petunias (grandifloras, multifloras, minis, waves).

I have noticed, however, that white and shades of purple petunias tend to be the most fragrant. Oh how I love the scent of petunias on a warm, muggy evening.....
