My marigolds keep developing this... brown rot. Is it botrytis?

You don't say where you are geographically, but has it by any chance been rainy and humid? Those blooms look like old, over the hill flower heads to me. Do they look fine when they first open up?

I apologize. I'm from North Georgia. It has been rainy lately. They look great when they first open, but once I snip the bad ones off, nothing grows to take its place. But the green stays green.

I can't see your pictures but if the green and doesn't turn brown or have spots it is not a fungal disease. When you planted them did you look at the root. Marigolds have a big root system and more often than not they are root bound when you buy them.

The root hits the bottom of the pot or container and it has nowhere to go so it curls round and round in the bottom of the pot. If you don't loosen and unwind those bottom roots they will continue that way when planted. Those roots are useless to the plant because the way they are they can't take up nutrients the plant needs and spread out. The root stays in that little ball it was in when you planted.

Dig up one plant and see if it is exactly like you planted them. If the root was loose it would have spread out. Look at the bottom. Does the root go around. If it does loosen it even if it means breaking a bit off the bottom. Then replant and I'll bet your Marigolds will be much happier.
