Zinnia Queen Red Lime really Queen Mauve Lime?

Is it just my Queen Red Lime zinnias that are not even close to being red, or should they have been named Queen Mauve Lime with Fuchsia center?
I was looking forward to the contrast so these look rather insipid to me. If I had been expecting a pastel, I might not be as displeased. Are everyone's like this?

Mine are only about four inches tall, lol, so I don't know yet. Maybe if we got a little sun and heat here they'd grow a bit!

I can see where you'd be disappointed with that color. Not at all what I was expecting. Keep us posted as to further blooms, please! (Mine will be a while yet, lol!)

Are these the first blooms? Dee has a point; the earlier ones usually aren't as nice as they 'clear their throat' for the later show.

They might be clearing their throat but I think they will have to cough up a lung to match the catalog photo. They are growing on me, however, despite the fact that they are wildly variable in color and height.
These are all from the same seed packet. I have about a dozen plants and no two are quite the same.

OMG! LOL!

As I said, mine are eons away from blooming yet, but I can't decide whether I dislike the photos in this thread or not. The variations are nice in a way - just the fact that there ARE variations, I mean.

I imagine a small bouquet of just these, with variations amongst the blooms, would be very eye-catching.

I really can't wait for mine to bloom now. If we'd only get some sun, my poor little plants might actually grow...

Dee, Nicotiana langsdorfii might be a good companion in a vase or in the garden. Too bad I did not plant it this year. I also thought about Ammi visnaga, which is not blooming for me yet.
I may hand pollinate a few of the "best" ones and see what develops. I like to do color theme venues in the garden and I can see some potential here.

I hope you and other folks growing these will post photos when they bloom. I would be interested in seeing if my experience is unique, or if they are consistently inconsistent.

Happy weekend!

They might not match the catalog, but I think they look nice in some way. :-)

I really like them too. I know it's not what you wanted, but they are really different and stand out in their own way.

Funny one, pdf! LOL!

I think I'd be disappointed, too. Mainly because I love the VIVID zinnia colors, and that one was shown with a definitely more vivid color than what you're getting.
