I'm growing a small patch of miniature/dwarf Z's that I've grown before with excellent results, but in a different location, and these Z's are just sitting there. Doing nothing. Each has one or two flowers, but they aren't growing in height or bushing out. I planted them a month ago. They get almost full sun. I fed them a week ago and still nothing. The soil seems fine because everything I'm growing next to it is thriving. I don't think I'm over-watering. It's hot here so I give them all a drink as soon as the soil dries. Any ideas on what I need to do?

What variety or varieties of miniature/dwarf zinnias are involved? It might help to post a picture of the zinnias, including the location, which may be the problem. ZM

No clue of the variety, sorry. They weren't even tagged when I bought them but I knew they were the "small" one's I grew a couple of years ago. How's that for good information? lol I'll take pictures in a bit.

They look like Profusions. They may have had damaged root systems when you bought them. Fungus gnat larvae feed on young plant roots and are a frequent problem in greenhouse grown seedlings. You might want to invest in a packet of Zahara zinnia seeds, and plant some in-ground in that bed while the Profusions try to recover from their problems. You might want to deadhead them to keep them from wasting energy on setting seeds. Zaharas are like Profusions, but somewhat better. ZM

Last year I planted seeds and not one Zinnia came up. I couldn't believe it! I've been deadheading what few flowers there's been. BTW, should I keep feeding them? I've only done it once so far.

Hi oakleyok, "Last year I planted seeds and not one Zinnia came up." Were they old seeds? Zinnias normally germinate well in only a few days. "...should I keep feeding them?" It depends on what you are feeding them. I would suggest a soluble formula like Miracle-Gro Bloom Booster Formula, which is higher in phosphorous. Be sure to dilute it with water according to the instructions, or make it even weaker to be on the safe side for more frequent applications. ZM
