| Lovin' the zinnias I planted this year!
Uproar Rose:
I also planted Profusion Cherry - and ditched them after about a month. Yuck. Couldn't stand the faded blooms, the planting looked old and worn out even when in full flower. So, won't be planting those again... |

What a lovely bed! Yes, indeed. Last year was my first year ever to grow the zinnia elegans, and I just fell in love with them too. They and the crinums (which are a good southern substitute for your gorgeous lilies) are the stars of my perennial borders in the hottest parts of the summer.

If you're not locked into that cherry color, there are others in the Profusion series that don't fade. You might also look at the Magellan series, another 'dwarf' hybrid, but with full sized blooms. There is a cherry AND a pink variety. Magellan zinnias don't fade and have pretty good disease resistance.

Very pretty! They look almost like "Purple Prince".

superb.. you know what caught my eye ... and it is really stupid ... i like the leaf litter ... the lack of perfectly manicured mulch .. the 'look' gives a very cottage garden impression .. but with a little extra spacing [perfected if i may say so] .. so it isnt all jammed together.... and the natural color of the leaf mold... is the perfect compliment to the vigor of the green plants .... its relaxing to my eye.. to gaze upon it ... ken

Well blow me down! I do believe this is the FIRST TIME in all these years you have ever complimented a planting of mine. I HAVE ARRIVED!! LOL!

I love these Zinnias too, can't imagine a summer without them. I'll have to agree with every word Ken said. Your garden must be special and amazing to cause that! I love the palette. I'm curious about the big leaf at the right edge in the top pic. May I ask what that is?

Purple -- it's an eggplant. (the vegetable patch starts there, and I put the eggplants in that spot because it's a pretty plant and I can see them from out that window - better than looking at gangly tomatoes or whatever).

Well I totally agree! Lots of veggie plants are cool to look at, and that's a great leaf.
