I'm referring to the light violet/lavender petunia. Is this hard to grow from seed? Can we plant them directly to ground like petunia Laura Bush? I really like this one. What other petunia plants(planted to ground) can you recommend from seed? Thanks!

Got it. Someone sent me a private msg. It's called petunia violet calyx flower.
|
That's not the real name of any petunia. It HAS a purple calyx, but that's simply the physical description. There are several petunia varieties that look like that. Perhaps it's one of the Tidal Waves. Hopefully, someone who grows petunias will be able to put a real name to your pretty plant....but it's not what you were told. Really, there are so many purple veined petunia hybrids.

One of the Supertunia Bordeaux types maybe? Probably has some cutsey name plants are often burdened with. Google Bordeaux Petunia for a picture that looks much like what you have.

I agree with duluthinbloomz4, it does look like Bordeaux. Supertunias are propagated by cuttings so you can't buy seeds. Here's an old thread I found, with a couple of suggestions for seed-grown alternatives. As for planting in the ground, consider the overall shape of the plant and think about how you want it to look. Wave petunias will grow flat to the ground. Other varieties will mound. Some make neat little cushion shapes.
Here is a link that might be useful: Another petunia thread
