 o
nasturtiums

I posted this on the seed saving forum but got no response. I have a lot of bush type nasturtiums, empress of india, apricot trifle, jewel, etc. They are dropping seeds now and I was wondering if I harvested them, would they grow into similar plants, or would they be the trailing, climbing type. I don't care what colors they are, I just use them in the veggie garden, to attract bees and also because I read they repel certain insects. But I have so many seeds, if I can, I'd like to collect them and use them next year. I don't want the trailing types though. Does anyone know, will the seeds be the bush type?

More than likely they will keep the bush habit and probably hold colors if not hybrids. If you don't care plant them and find out. Climbers and trailers could be trained onto a stake or something as well.

Thanks for the reply. I don't care what color they are, I just plant them in the veggie garden to attract polinating bees and to repel insects, which I've read they can do. As long as they flower, any color is fine by me. I get so many seeds from them, it seems silly to buy seed next year if I can save it. I just don't want the rambling types that would spread all over the garden.

I am soaking two nasturtium seeds now, I will plant them tomorrow, if anyone has any advice or help for growing these good and healthy let me know. Everything else is growing real well. I will want to keep them in the house as a houseplant.
