so as you can see I have a sunflower with multi heads. so if I let it go to seed will those seeds also be of a multiple flower head type? it's also nearing on 9ft high.

if I can do that with the seeds, how do I ripen, and store thw seeds?

thank you

We don't know...try it and see. It depends on if whatever caused it to multi-head is genetic and is passed down to F1 descendants, if it's recessive, perhaps only in F2 generation.

hmm. I inow somepoint can mutate so to say. but I never understood the First when selecting seeds. what do I search?

Do you know the cultivar that you planted? Do you have a picture of the blooms? How tall is it and how big are the blooms? It looks like the Kong cultivar which is an F1 hybrid and will not come true from seed. I actually didn't get any to germinate but I may have not given the seeds enough time to ripen before frost.

I don't know it's these http://www.wilko.com/flower-seeds/wilko-flower-garden-giant-single-sunflower/invt/0284023 it's our local home and garden store.

so it could be that one odd seed that is the 'gem' of the packet?

thank you

Yes, it could be the gem. Also could be a seed from a different cultivar that accidentally found its way into that package. Last year I got a pure red sunflower in a mini yellow package.

If you like that multi head on tall sunflowers look at the cultivar 'Kong'.

RE: multi head sunflower - seed question?

Never seen blue don't think it exists, shades of yellow, red and brown are the basic norm. Some very nice reds out there. I liked 'Moulin Rouge' and 'Ruby Eclipse' in reds as well as 'Prado Red'.

oh, shame! I love Blue!! hwha!

if I sow sunflowers about Xmas time can I get then to flower same time as tulips to create a Red bed! or is it too cold?

RE: multi head sunflower - seed question?

I am not familiar with your climate but I can't imagine sunflowers liking the same weather as tulips. You can never lose by trying.

this is the sunflower now. And there is still more flowers to come!

I removed lower leaves as went yellow and crispy! I had to tie a bamboo cane to fence to support it as there was a bit of wind due and the fence is 7ft so I think hqve a 9ft sunflower?
