Blitz 3000 Impatien

Does anyone have any experience growing Blitz 3000? I grew Envoy (a large flowered, tall impatien, I believe related to Blitz) imps this year and I was fairly happy with them, but I wondered if anyone here had any experience growing them. Anyone?

Hi Tom - they aren't related to Envoy's (different breeding companies), but are similar in habit. You will find Blitz 3000 to be pretty vigorous, one of the best for the landscape.

Can you suggest to me an impatien that grows about 16" tall and each color is at the same height? I have found some colors more vigorous than others is that common? Do you have any experience with Infinity?

Hi Tom, I haven't seen the Blitz 3000, I love impatients and they are growing in my garden year after year. I change the colors each year and sometime plant intermixing colors. Do you have any pics of the Blitz 3000?.....Wayne

Wayne,

I have pictures - but I did the Envoys: The above states that it is similar in growth habit.

Early in the season:

Later in the season (bags look good now):

This was late in the season, the envoys grew out of their 'bags' on the fence... I would not recommend them for bags - hanging pots, yes - not the bags.

I also grew Envoys along a retaining wall. These were only two rows...

This was taken in the beginning of October (can no longer see the retaining wall):

Thank you Tom, much appreciated. You have an absolutely beautifull display, fantastic job. You must be very pleased. You pics gave me an idea for something I want to do next spring. WOW, they are certainly WOW pics, Thanks again. I would post some pics of my garden but I've forgotton how, can you refresh my brain? Wayne

RE: Blitz 3000 Impatien

Wayne - I use photobucket - upload the pictures there... then when you view the pictures there's 4 choices underneath like IM&Email, and 3 others - the third is something like HTML or something just click on HTML (the third one) then paste that right on to your message.

I just learned how to do this myself. I kept putting it in the "optional Link URL" - but it goes right into the message. THere's a practice area if you need to practice... I did.

Hope you can share your pics, Wayne.

What are you thinking about doing next year? I'm still debating colors... white, red and salmon... with Salmon Stardust in the bags on the fence... :)

Good luck,

Tom-

RE: Blitz 3000 Impatien

Hi Tom, thanks so very much for the info on downloading pics. I do have photobucket and I will certainly give it a try. For next year, well actually this year I started building a secret garden. It is at the back of my property and unless you actually walk up to that area you would never know it's there. It is completely covered in shade by some very big mature maples so impatients would work wonderfull. I have to do some thinking on the colors, white, red and salmon sound really nice. I have often used white in my rock garden and they did a wonderfull show. Being in a shady area they brightened it up wonderfully. I have added a photo from 2006, I hope it works........

Tom,

Great photos! I love the ones in the bags on the fence. What a great idea. How did you do that? Have you used plants other than impatiens? I have 185 feet of white picket fence I could do something like that on.

What is that purple flower in the next to the last photo, it's gorgeous?

Hi Lindama, the purple flower is a rododendron.....Wayne

Wayne - the first picture with the blue hosta and the white imps! LOOOVE it! What a great color combination. I always use white in my combos because it shows up so beautifully at night (moonlight). I love it. I have a few blue hosta - you got me thinking!! :)

Karen, you can purchase the 'bags' at any wholesale place. I have never seen them in a home depot/nursery/etc. unless they were already done. They're a tube with 5-10 holes in the front, and a loop on the top. You fill it with dirt and plant plants in the holes (a PITA) but well worth the effort in the end. I did them because they're lighter than a hanging basket - and they were cheaper for me (making them myself). I would do them again, but I would do a dwarf impatien - not the ones I did. I've seen them done with pansies, petunias, begonias, marigolds, etc.

I recommend them highly if you can find them.

Here's a place that sells them - I got them for a fraction of that... something like 25/$19.99. Good luck and keep me posted! :)

RE: Blitz 3000 Impatien

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find them. As you say, I've not seen them for sale at HD or Lowe's or some place like that. Unfortunately, HD and Lowe's have a larger selection than the local nurseries here in town.

RE: Blitz 3000 Impatien

Karen, I suggest trying to purchase them on line. I was leery about them this year (my first year with them) and other than wanting to grow a more dwarf variety of impatien, I'd do them again! I think that old fence never looked better than with all that beautiful color.

I'd try to purchase them on line. If you can't get them/find them, let me know.

Thanks.

RE: Blitz 3000 Impatien

Hi, Tom,

I finally found them at a decent price:

There are other brands -- but, wow, they are way pricey.

Thanks for the info.

RE: Blitz 3000 Impatien

Oh, good, I'm glad you found them!!!!

Good luck!

(mine were the ones with the 10 slits, but I imagine the 5 slitters would work too!)

Thanks,

Tom

RE: Blitz 3000 Impatien

Tom,

I got some at a great price. I got 24 of the ones with 10 slits for $10.49+$5.00 shipping on eBay.

My white picket fence is going to look wonderful next summer. Thanks for the tip.
