| It seems like most thistles are biennial or perennial, depending upon what kind it is. There are also a few annual species. |

| You probably have Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) a strangely common-named invasive noxious perennial weed NOT native to Canada or US. A dandelion fork was my preferred tool for evicting those from my yard in OH. As it sounds like you may already know, you need to get the whole taproot or they will grow back, though keeping them mowed can prevent their spread until you are able to deal with those roots. Hope you haven't let the plants make ripe seeds, asking about this so late in the year. Do you have a patch or scattered individuals? |

| your problem .. is asking a question .. using a common name .. for example.. the link .. shows there are at least 3 latin names to the group [4???] ... [gotta love the scots wiki.. lol] first get a proper id.. then you will find your answer ... usually ... a picture .. here.. or in the NAME THAT PLANT FORUM ... or the perennial .. will get you the ID ken |
