I've read of several methods on overwintering Geraniums. I have three in a pot that are growing beautifully, especially with the cooler temps of fall. My question is, what is the best way to overwinter them? I have space in both my basement (does have patio doors facing North--minimal light) and garage (the light is usually on at night). I've been considering the bare-root-in-a-bag method. Please share with me what's worked best for you. Thanks in advance!

I just pulled mine yesterday. I'm going to try the box method this year. I shook off all the dirt and put them in boxes. I'm going to store the boxes in a room above my unheated garage. Hope it works!

"Best" is relative. Best for you may not be the same as what's best for the plants. I overwinter my favorites in my living quarters. Some of them bloom, I can pet and sniff the scented ones, and all of them have luscious green leaves for me to admire. This helps me stay happy through winter.

I dig and store mine in paper lawn bags. Do a board search and you should find a description of how to do it.

If you have a space with light I would try that first. Place them in the brightest spot , the cooler the better, and don't water more than once a month. They'll drop leaves but not grow much until you start watering again in spring.
