Hi Shaji, Assuming you don't have a tap on the balcony, usually you have to carry the water from the kitchen to the balcony in buckets and then water the plants. In the summer, I kept a couple of buckets filled with water on the balcony and then used a smaller container, a watering can or a measuring cup, to water the plants from those buckets. Does that help?

I bought a cheap two gallon container at wal-mart. I fill it with water in the bathtub and then drag it to the balcony, and then pour it into a smaller watering can so it's not as heavy. And invest in a little step stool so you can get those baskets.Good luck

You can also fill 2 liter bottles freeze them them break them open take ice and put it in your pots works great it is slow to melt and more even watering.

I use self-watering pots or put plastic 1" drainage trays beneath the pots so I can water from the bottom as well. During the intense heat of our brief summers, I have to water everything twice a day.

Since I usually have so many plants (it usually takes around 10 gallons a pop) I use an adapter (available at most waterbed and hardware stores) to hook my garden hose to the kitchen faucet, and use one of those wands with an on/off valve. This lets me water (and refill the pond) a lot faster and easier, and the wand really helps with all the hanging pots!

I second the faucet adapter. I realized the very first year that dragging buckets out to the balcony was a pain. Make sure that you get the right kind for your faucet (screwing on from the outside or the inside). You also need to make sure that the hose you get is long enough to reach all of your pots. Mine is just a little short so that some of the pots are a stretch to get to.

What great ideas! I love this site! Thank you Ruggy for the adapter/hose idea. Thanks OM for the link to ideas and suggestions. And thanks Angie for the ice idea. This is my first season ever for balcony/container gardening and I know diddly about it. I will keep all this in mind.
