Building something on the ledge of my apt balcony/terrace...

To be able to grow and receive light from three sides rather than one. Think this is a good idea? Not sure whether I'm even allowed to do this but I might do it anyway until they nag me to take it down

I know where I live they would stop you from building it immediately, your neighbors will be complaining as soon as you raise your hammer..

How high up are you? I doubt it would be allowed, and if you're very high anything that falls can be deadly. So it's best avoided. I know for myself, I needed to hang my boxes outside my railing for them to get more sun. I called and asked, and they said it was fine. We have no walkways under our balconies though and the highest floor is 3.

I'm on the 7th floor, but on the six floor there's a platform Where you can go to from the 6th floor, so if anything were to fall, it would hit the 6th floor platform, which isn't that far below

I would still avoid it. Wind gusts and all, not to mention the extension itself. That will also add more weight to your balcony.

Gotta go along with Christine. Neighbors can be a real "testa di cazzo." Mine is LOVELY. : (

Why not install fluorescent grow lights?

Aptbalc, I'm currently growing basil and cilantro under a cfl and hood, but using the sun from my terrace seems tempting
