North facing balcony looking for fragrant flowering plants

Being a city kid all my life, I'm excited to have my first balcony space for planting. It is incredibly bright throughout the day but since it faces north, there isnt any direct sun. Can anyone suggest hardy fragrant plants that is appropriate for container planting and does not need direct sun? container suggestion and source would be great as well. I was thinking that perhaps i should get an oversize fiberglass type container so it will require less frequent watering. Please help

You can try night blooming jasmine and/or gardenia. Both will bloom in very bright light.

I have the same kind of balcony arrangement you do, and I grow lilies. These are Stargazers.
