which pest is it?

| Hi, I have a small skimmia on my balcony. About 2 weeks ago I thought it was kind of dirty and decided to give it a shower. On inspecting it closely, I noticed that the leaves that used to be dark green were sort of grey green and the dirt actually was some kind of bug. I showered it of course and returned it to the balcony. It then rained for a couple of days and today on inspecting it again, there they were. I don't have a magnifying glass, which makes it difficult to id them. Anyway, they are sort of brown, reddish brown in colour. I mixed some soap in water and thoroughly washed the leaves one by one.
Questions:
- anyone has an idea of which bug it is?
- what else can I do to save my plant? There is new growth by the way.
Any help is wellcome. |

| It could be scale insects which are that color, although it's difficult to try to ID unless you had a picture of it. You might try alcohol and a q-tip to dab on the bugs. Some plants are sensitive to insecticidal soap if you want to try that (but make sure you read the label). |
