| OK, so about a month, month & a half ago, I came on here and asked for help in picking seeds to start with, cause I'm a total newbie here, never planted any sort of seed anywhere for any reason...and I was directed to the Park Seed catalog...so I checked it out...became completely obsessed with all the great info available through them...received a gift cert for the catalog for my bday...ordered 16 different seed packets and the Original BioDome (seed starter set up)...then received another gift (also for my bday) of a 40-cell BioDome and 8 more seed packets...plus my DH gave me 5 seed packets for V-Day...
So, on the 21st, I set up my 40 cell BioDome, 8 different plants, 5 cells of each...and when I went to water them on the evening of the 23rd I HAD SPROUTS!!! Already!! I'm so totally amazed at how quickly these babies are growing!! And I'm so completely excited!! I have set up a spreadsheet to keep track of what plants I start when, how often I water them, how many sprouts are seen when, and all that jazz...but I'm so excited cause I was pretty sure that I had a Black Thumb and wouldn't even accomplish this much growing and these sprouts popped up SO FAST!!
Anyway...I thought I'd share with others who could get why I'm so excited...DH is happy for me, but it isn't his thing, so he's not as pschyced as me LOL!!
Thanks for listening to me babble...

Hee, hee! I completely understand. Last year was my first year growing and I thought I had a "black thumb" too! I found this forum in Jan and spent the next 2 months on the internet learning about plants, and dreaming. Counting the days til last frost. And I felt the exact same way when my first plants started growing. I thought "OMG I can actually do this!" You are hooked now, so welcome to the club! Lydia |

| Congratulations on your seed babies!!! I will be starting my seeds next weekend as over the years, based on the kooky weather, I have worked on trying to find the best time to start seeds so that the plants would be at the right size to plant out when the temps have warmed up for summer (I usually try to get them out on or before Memorial Day). I know last year I was a bit late getting started (did it around the 2nd week of April) and the year before, I was about a week too early (starting them around the 3rd week of March, where they were really overgrown before I got chance to plant them out near the end of May). So this year, I'm aiming for the last week of March/first week of April. I have red hot pokers that I started from seed last year and overwintered outside this past winter, and they still have a few green leaves (they form bulbs). I'm hoping they are okay (I kept them mostly dry or barely moist through winter). Am crossing fingers for them! I want to start some scarlet runner beans because they did wonderfully last year and my hummers loved them! Also plan to start some tomatoes, but I'm trying to decide which ones to do this year from seeds that I have from last year. |
