Hello everyone!

I am a newbie with container / balcony gardening (although my home depot bought plants did well last year). This year I am a bit more ambitious and would really like to focus on fruits and veggies.

This is my question: i will be moving at the end of May and finding an apartment with a south-facing balcony here in Munich is highly unlikely. I would like to hear from more experienced container / balcony gardeners which they would prefer: south-east or south-west? Given Munich's latitude, we will have sun from about 6 am through 10 pm in summer, so I'm guessing either is ok, but I somehow remember my mother always saying that veggies prefer morning sun to evening sun.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Tasha

Mom is right. Morning sun, especially on balconies, is probably preferred over hot afternoon sun. One of my sisters used to live in an apartment with a balcony that faced south. Needless to say, it was a challenge and the plants fried all summer. If there's any opportunity to get some late afternoon shade, go for it.
