Morning glories on NW facing balcony?

Posted by herbivore NJ (My Page) on

I can't find a Morning Glory forum here so I'm hoping I can get some help on this forum...

We have a NW facing balcony. My husband just bought MG seeds with the intention of letting them climb up the balcony supports.

But I am researching MGs and learning they only bloom in the morning (knew that already from the name, but...) IN the morning sun, and close up in the afternoon.

In the afternoon is when the sun hits our balcony, but would they still bloom in the morning when NOT directly in the sun?

Hello herbivore!

My balcony faces west, so I don't get any sun until around 2 in the afternoon, and I've always had hundreds of blooms.

This year I'm doing MG's again, along with hops, coral vine, sweet peas, and hyacinth bean, hoping for a riot of blooms, not to mention privacy and shade :)

Super, ruggy! Thank you! I will definitely plant them now, and I look forward to watching them grow and flower. Thanks for the link to your beautiful pics!

Hello Herb, yes you will get the blooms in the morning. Here's a little secret to promote rapid growth of you MG's. After you get them into the soil water them with milk twice a week. You will be surprised at how much they like the milk.

With milk? Really?? Now that's certainly something I hadn't heard before. I will certainly try, thanks Sherina.
