may be nandina domestica? it takes partial/full sun, looks like bamboo, has attractive red berries in winter. depending on zone it can be evergreen, but it changes color in the fall to red. quite easy in the pot too. you can prune it too.
and they have dwarf varieties also.

Perhaps a camillia - they are quite cold hardy, bloom during the winter/early springâ¦now I see youâÂÂre in seattle so not too sure how these shrubs/trees fair on the NW coast. However, thereâÂÂs many different types of camillas so perhaps you could find one to suit your needs..?
Not flowering but Japanese mapleâÂÂs are another nice one perhaps.
