How about a pool?

I am a newbie to this forum and will be moving out of a house and into an apartment this year. How about putting a child's small wading pool on one end of the balcony and grouping potted plants in it, maybe with statuary in the middle, then it would be like a garden. Anybody doing this? Rose

Don't know of anyone who's doing that, but it sounds like a good idea! Would make watering those pots easier, too...

Just make sure your balcony can support the weight of all that water! If you are thinking of making it like a small pond, that is. If the wading pool will just be a sort of large container or border for the mini garden, then it won't be a problem. =)

It's just the same as doing a Water Container Garden, Half Barrel, etc.

Very easy to do and a lot of bang for the buck!

Just don't forget 'Skeeter' control.

Either Mosquito Dunks, goldfish or our new experiment Mosquitofish.

You are definitely not the first to do it. But why put the plants in pots?

In the link below it says somewhere a filled 6ft. pool weighs up to 350lbs. Considering that the weight is distributed over a 6ft. diameter area, this is not too bad at all.

Here is a link that might be useful: wading pool gardens

I have two of these. One has annuals and perennials, in full sun. The other houses hostas in semi-shade. All I did was make some drainage holes in the bottom and sides, add my soil, and plant. My flowers love them!
