Has anyone tried fertilizing container veggies with worm castings teabags or barnyard teabags (like the ones at Lee Valley)? Any other suggestions for organic fertilizers? |

I've never actually used the "barnyard tea bags" but, I do use worm castings mixed in with my potting soil (especially for starting seedlings), and brew my own compost tea from a homemade inoculant solution that includes worm castings (which is probably cheaper than buying the premade tea bags, and it's fun and easy. I can give you the "recipe" if you like. Another good organic fertilizer is deodorized fish emulsion (I use Alaska brand, 5-1-1)...but with fish emulsion be careful if using on edibles as there can sometimes be varying levels of mercury in the solution (even if it's approved for organic production). Hope this helps. :) Lunaflora |

| I haven't tried the ones from Lee Valley, but I've been using PlantTea (www.plantea.com) and that seems to work pretty well. I'm a newbie with this organic fertilizer stuff, though, so I don't know how much my opinion is worth. |
