I'm sorry, I can't really identify those plants. they could be a number of things.... someone else might be able to do that better.

A plant that will do well in most climates (and that I have recently lost my heart to) is Echinacea Purpurea (Purple Coneflower). In nature you can find them from Mexico to Canada. The species which you find in nature get about 5 feet tall, but can be cut down to 10 inches when they have reached 15 inches in the spring... that will make them bush out more, instead of just going up. Most other varieties that are grown in gardens, get to be 3-4 feet tall without any help.
