euonymus under attack ...

liisa_6a

I planted some emerald gold euonymus on my balcony for some year round green. They were purchased 2 wks ago, sat in original containers for 1 additional week (kept well - not over - watered), then planted last weekend. They already show some new growth, but already they have 2 problems! 1. some aphids, 2. some C-shaped cuts from the leaves. I just sprayed the undersides of the leaves with a mix of biodegradable dish-soap and water for the aphids, but am at a loss for the cuts.

I'm looking for practical advice here ... what can I do for the c-shaped cuts? Or, do I cut my losses, get rid of them, and plant some other version of evergreen? In that case, which evergreen is most hardy against bugs, and likes half-day sun?

Thanks in advance!
