Pretty Morning Glorys

I just love walking out on my balcony deck in the early morning and seeing my Grandpa Otts Morning Glory's in bloom. They are so very pretty! I am still waiting for my Heavenly Blues to bloom, I planted them both at the same time and still there is no sign of even a bud on my Heavenly Blue vine. I also have a Scarlet Cardinal Climber growing with this vine and that hasn't bloomed yet either. The leaves looks very healthy though and I'm not fertilizing them at all, so that's not the problem.

For those interested, here is a picture of my Grandpa Otts this morning on my balcony.

I love Grandpa Ott's too. I grew them up my staircase last year and they did very well. This year I didn't plant any because the staircase was being replaced by a deck so I tossed the seeds I had left into the compost pile and they grew there. I wasn't expecting it, the compost pile is right next to where I have pole beans so I didn't even know they were there until one day I looked at the beans and said "I didn't know these beans would flower like that".

I don't know why your HB aren't flowering, sometimes I think these things just happen. Never had a problem getting MG to flower, but moonflowers are a different story.

Oh my Moonflowers have been blooming non-stop for the past month now, everyday there's at least one blossom open. Only thing is, they only last for one day. Wish they lasted longer and also wish more would bloom at the same time.

Here in North Texas Heavenly Blue are very late bloomers, August till frost. Through experiment I have found that various types of mg bloom at various times, some very early and some very late and some in between. I have cardinal climber every year and they don't bloom until the weather gets very warm or hot, June on...the trouble with the late bloomers is that you have the vine to water and take care of for so many months before you have flowers, but Heavenly Blue makes a fantastic show when it does get its groove on!
