suggestions for a NW facing balcony

| I have a mostly shady NW facing Seattle balcony with 2-3 hrs of harsh late afternoon sun if it comes out and a lot of wind. What can be grown? I had a lot of luck with a very large hearty geranium for years but it died after a very cold winter and I am unable to find a similar one. The geraniums I get now are wimpy and pathetic and always get sort of bug. Roses get mold . I can grow ivy in the shady part but that is boring. One year I did very well with begonias but this year they just molded. My wild strawberries and some other wild berry or rose plant is growing like crazy. Maybe I should dig up some more mountain plants that handle harsh conditions! Any suggestions? Thanks! |

You have dozens of options including Euphorbias,Ajuga,Dusty
Millers,Jade Plant,Helichrysum,Iris,and Abutilon.
Some of these take very low water,so they are ideal for pot culture. |
