I didn't have much luck

Hi! - I haven't visited here for quite some time. I should have posted this earlier in the spring/summer but container gardening was a disaster for me. Last summer I bought 4 clematis, blueberry bushes, roses, daylilies plus more. After the winter I noticed some life in the pots, but after a rainy spring - everything died except 1 blueberry bush and the tree rose which I dragged into the garage.

Last winter I dragged the roses into a protected corner but other than that I didn't do anything else to protect them. Where did I go wrong?

Sounds like you may need to work some more drainage material (like perlite, fired clay bits like Turface, pumice, or similar material) into your potting mixes. You have to strike a balance between watering needs when it's hot and dry, and drainage needs when it's cool and wet.
