Plants for East Facing Balcony?

lavender108

Can anyone help with plant suggestions for a due east facing balcony with uninterrupted morning sunlight? Desperate to grow some pretty flowers and even some herbs and vegetables. In Sydney, Australia (lower North Shore), 2nd floor and exposed to southerlies from the harbour, but I should be able to add some kind of wind buffer on the balcony to help protect them a bit.

Will lavender grow (or other plants attractive to bees), or does it need full sun? Also, are there any native plants I can grow in pots to entice the birds (mostly rosella from what I've seen, but there may be other native parrots).

Thank you! Would love to hear what's worked for you in east-facing spots.
