Now is the time

It's a gorgeous day here in NYC. The first bit of sunshine in a week! Now is the time for me to clean out my balcony.

Just a friendly reminder to those who are bringing plants inside for the winter. Make sure you use a pesticide to kill off all of the buggies/eggs that you cannot see. You don't want to infect your inside houseplants.

We didn't do this last year and my lovely 9 ft ficsus became the victim of scale (ugh! the only thing that worked was marathon). Other plants such as my hibiscus were hit as well. The fiscus then also got a bad case of mold this summr and I have to spend hours wiping each leaf. Now it looks great and new leaves are growing and I won't make the same mistake twice.

Who knew where the bugs came from as I am 150 feet up. My guess the flies or birds brought them.

As well, start to get Wilt-Pruf. It works like a charm. My evergreens will be staying out in pots this winter and I will spray them within the month and mulch again. We lost our boxwoods last year due to windburn even though we Wilt-Pruf'd. Thinking of wrapping those Alberta spruces...
