I just bought a small umbrella tree, small as in just a few inches tall. I want to eventually turn this into a bonsai. I'm not really sure where or when to start this. I think I need to wait until it's a more woody plant? I've read conflicting things tho, first I read to wait until it's bigger and than I read it's good to start while it's young..so that's my first problem. I know there is no right or wrong way to cut them and it's to whatever shape you want, I like the root over rock but I have no clue how to even start this, also when cutting, do you cut the whole stem or just below the leaves? And wherever you do cut is where more shoots come off so that area is thicker, right? Any pointers will help!
