Sick bonsai Chinese elm with white fungus

Trying to keep the story short but 1st 2 paragraphs are what I believe contributed to the disease......

I'm new to bonsai but I have a Chinese Elm that remains indoors for the most part.Trouble started when I had it in soil and I think I watered it too much.....it got some very small white bugs on it with a sticky film (aphids I believe) with ants climbing up the trunk.

I got help in transplanting the bonsai into a new pot with a gravel-like soil and sprayed an "earth-tone insecticidal soap" on the plant. The leaves turned brown and slowly started to die off......not sure if it was from the plant attack or just because it is deciduous.

Anyways, the white bugs appear to be gone (no more leaves) but there is a white-looking fungus at the nodes of some of the branches and small little gnats near the base. How can I get rid of this stuff? What is it?
