No one has tried to help so here goes.you can put the trees for bonsai in grow boxes 12x12x3 in.so the roots will spred out flat.if the branches are where you want them to be wire them down not stright up. do not prune yet every thing is too small.give them a growing season at least.watch if you wire so it does not cut in to your branches.hope this helps john

It all rather depends on what size bonsais you want. As you have 10 of them you have the option of creating a range of sizes and styles. Some would benefit from growing in the ground for 2 seasons. This would thicken up the trunk and branches.

With the example you show in the picture, the lowest branch is quite high up, so as it stands it probably wouldn't make a convincing medium sized bonsai, regardless of how much pruning you carry out. However there is nothing to stop you chopping the trunk off below the lowest branch, see what new shoots it puts out and consider the style from there.

Thanks guys, Yes the branches on this specimen is about 12'' from the top of the pot. some of the other are 4 to 8'' so i do have more to work with.. I have over 430 trees in all to work with , some for bonsai and most are for landscape. All of my trees are in 3-5-7 and ten gallon pots. Behind some old grain bins here. The wind was blowing really bad the other day and i move five of my select maples up against the side of the bins,,, and get this .. the next morning, two of them was eattin down to a three inch nub.. Im thinkin, it was wolf rats . Im pretty sure... didnt see any deer tracks... So .. the rats chopped them for me...lol and didn't charge me a dime.... But, im gunna get face to face with one of them in the morning.... Thanks again Greg
