| Hi,
This is a Honeysuckle Bonsai Lonicera japonica. I need help on styling. Do any of you have any ideas? Thanks,

| Well, if you're too impatient to wait and let it grow out, I would first of all make it a lot shorter, since its trunk is so skinny to begin with. Maybe, cut it down to all but one branch and make that the new leader by wiring it up straight. I'm not sure how good honeysuckles are at backbudding (that is producing new growth along old stems when pruned), but I would imagine they're pretty vigorous growers. Let it grow out for a while and style it from there. I like the look of the bottom of the trunk (looks like a root?), so definitely keep that above the soil and accentuate it later with the growth up top. Hope that helps! Jason p.s. Funny you ask about styling a honeysuckle because I am in the process of experimenting with a trumpet vine (see above post), another unconventional bonsai species! |
