how to get this exposed root structure to form from a cutting

I know almost nothing about bonsai.

I don't know if this qualifies as a bonsai but I took a cutting of it and I wonder how to get that root structure to grow. The cutting has grown lots of white roots but is there some way to get that hard root structure to grow above the soil if I plant it?

You have to let the roots develop under the soil and then slowly expose them by bushing or washing the soil away over time. The roots exposed to air, so long as they are still buried enough to grow, will harden off and continue to grow with the trunk.

Willows or Forsythias kept in a big jar of water will grow very long roots that are pretty easy to wrap around rocks or sculptures
