Newbie needing help pls.

I was visiting a friend recently and one of his flatmates had lots of books lying around the living room to do with Bonsai. I started browsing a couple, then reading, then got told off by my friend for not being sociable!!!

I was very taken my this hobby, so much so that my wife went out and bought me a tree.

From the research I have done on the Interweb, i believe it to be a Loropatelum, but I could be very much mistaken.

Im looking to get this confirmed, and also any pointers on special care needed etc, if someone could spare a few mins to take a look, thanks.

I live on the North East Coast of the UK, think it is Zone 10.

K I've just read the FAQ, and need to add some details.
Im happy to keep the tree outside, as I believe it is a temperate, not a tropical, so will need to rest outdoors, but it may get too cold for it in winter?
The pot has a single central drainage hole underneath.
It also looks too small to me, but I'm a beginner and am basing that comment on instinct alone!!
